Frequently Asked Questions What is Botulinum toxin ?Botox, Vistable or Dysport are brands of botulinum toxin A which is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. How does Botulinum toxin work?Botox, Vistabel or Dysport is a non-surgical treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, forehead lines, and lines around the eyes (crows feet). Wrinkle lines in these areas may be caused by overactive muscle movements in the face creasing the skin. Over time these creases become deeper and more prominent. Botox, Vistabel or Dysport relaxes these muscles reducing the active lines that appear during these movements. The skin appears smoother and the wrinkle lines less prominent, giving you a younger looking appearance. The ideal result softens and takes out wrinkles, but still leaves some natural expressions. Treatment proceduresUsing a very small fine needle an anti-wrinkle treatment (such as Botox, Vistabel or Dysport or another treatment) is injected into the specific facial muscles (between the brows, around the eyes or forehead lines). It works by relaxing those muscles and prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin will appear smoother giving a younger looking appearance. In our clinic, a new needle will be used for each individual injection, therefore, the discomfort associated with the procedure is very minimal. The results of the treatment are usually noticeable around 10 days, but it can take up-to two weeks after treatment for optimal results to be seen. How long will Botulinum toxin result lasts? The effects of the anti wrinkle injections are temporary and last up to 3-4 months (depending on the patient and response to treatment). Repeated treatments are recommended with the effects lasting longer over time. Aftercare At the end of the appointment, the clinician will provide you with aftercare advice that will help optimise the results of your treatment. A follow up appointment will be offered to you two weeks after the treatment. This will allow us and you to assess the outcome of the treatment. Any touch up treatment required will be complementary. This enables us to offer each individual a tailored treatment and therefore achieving an optimal natural appearance for you. Aftercare Advice Immediately after treatment with Botox, there may be bruising, slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. Rarely, some patients have reported skin tightness and sometimes nausea or headache following treatment. Please contact us for advice if the symptoms continue or it other reactions occur. You should frown repeatedly for about one hour immediately following the treatment. This will help the treatment to be more effective by increasing the uptake by the targeted muscle groups. Do not rub the treated area, stay upright for at least 4 hours and try to avoid sleeping on your face for the first night. You can gently apply light makeup after the treatment but used a light dabbing motion instead of a rubbing or spreading motion for the first day. Do not have any facial treatments for 7 days after treatment as they may cause ‘tracking’ of the botulinum toxin type A (Botox or Dysport) to neighbouring areas. Side effects of this treatment (Botox or Dysport) are rare. Occasionally, temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow may occur, which usually lasts for a few weeks and if longer, will resolve when the effects of the toxin wear off. Dermal FillersYouthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid: a substance that binds water, hydrates the skin, and promotes all-important softness and fullness. However, as we age, the hyaluronic acid in our skin gradually becomes less efficient. Injecting the skin with hyaluronic acid can therefore boost the skin's hydration system to restore volume, and lift the skin to smooth away and soften the appearance of facial lines. What is RestylaneThe dermal filler we use is Restylane. It has been proven with more than 10 years of experience to be effective, long lasting and safe, with over 10 million treatments worldwide. Restylane is stabilised non-animal hyaluronic acid gel which is made to closely resemble the natural hyaluronic acid found in our skin. This minimises the risk for inflammatory reactions. How does Restylane ® work? Restylane is an injectable treatment that contains hyaluronin gel. It is specifically formulated to delay the signs of ageing and refresh looks in a natural and subtle way. When injected into the skin, Restylane effectively gives our own hyaluronic acid a helping hand. Restylane has the additional advantages of stimulating collagen production and improving skin elasticity. The results of Restylane treatment are healthier looking, smoother, toned skin with an overall revitalised appearance. Lip Definition The lips are defined by injecting Restylane Lipp into the tissue between the red part of the lips and the skin, known as the vermillion border. The procedure will give more definition to the lips and enhance the cupids bow. Volume of the lips is achieved by injecting Restylane Lipp into the red part of the lip to give a plumping effect. Lines around the lip (smoker lines) or lip stick bleed can be treated by enhancing lip definition combined with injecting small amounts of Restylane into each line. Why using Restylane Lipp to enhance your lips? Lips create visual impact on first meeting and they are the most sensuous feature of the face. The complex movements of the lips and the rich vasculature associated with lips make the lip treatment challenging. Restylane Lipp is derived entirely from a non-animal source since 1996 with more than 9 million treatments worldwide. It has been specially designed for lip enhancement. Restylane Lipp is a pure form of hyaluronic acid: a naturally occurring substance that binds water to give lips their shape and fullness, which is also soft to touch. Nasolabila folds Nasolabial folds are the lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth. Prominent nasolabial folds and cheek lines are usually due to loss of supporting tissues in the skin. We inject Restylane in to the area to produce volume under the folds to smooth out their appearance. Marrionette lines Marrionette lines are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. These lines are usually due to loss of underlying supporting tissue in the skin. We use Restylane to plump out the lines, providing the support that will make them less apparent. Treatment proceduresFree initial consultation will involve discussing your concerns, answering your questions about the treatment or product, taking a medical history, explaining contra-indications and possible adverse effects, and plan the treatment to achieve your goals. The dermal filler is injected into the skin or lips using a very fine needle. A topical or local anaesthetic can be used depending on the area being treated; your clinician will discuss this with you at your consultation. The results are usually immediate, however, sometimes we may need to wait for a few days to see the optimum result. How long will the result lasts? The effects of the Restylane dermal filler injections are temporary and last up to 6-9 months (depending on the patient and response to treatment). Aftercare At the end of the appointment, the clinician will provide you with aftercare advice that will help optimise the results of your treatment. A follow up appointment will be offered to you within 1-2 weeks after the treatment. This will allow us and you to assess the outcome of the treatment. Any touch up treatment required will be complementary. This enables us to offer each individual a tailored treatment and therefore achieving an optimal natural appearance for you. Aftercare Advice Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. Please contact us for advice if the inconvenience continues or if other reactions occur. The initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week and the lips can look somewhat uneven during this time. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result. Avoid touching the treated area 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with water. Light make-up may then be applied. Until initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. Sun-bathing) or extreme cold. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Dermal fillers are long lasting but not permanent. You always have a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments. A touch-up treatment within 1-2 weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary to achieve an optimal correction.
